NEW 2007This 1 -day introduction to coaching provides a taster programme and CPD (Continual Professional Development) event for anyone interested in coaching. This is a practical course that both explains and demonstrates the key skills and competencies to enable the start of your coaching career. The course is certificated by Business Works and covers:
The course provides a solid platform to anyone starting out coaching and wishing to develop their skills, capabilities and confidence in the coaching process.

Aim and Objective Aimed at those who wish to train in LIFE COACHING The course is focused entirely at Coaching Skills and is ideal for anyone wanting to provide Life Coaching. We provide another short course for those who wish to learn business skills (certificated by Institute of Leadership and Management).
Programme Structure The course requires a completion of 25 guided learning hours. This includes 22 hours of workshops and seminars plus 3 hours of personal coaching.
Assessment The assessment requires completion of 3 separate tasks: § Submission of short written responses to each workshop segment § A critical book review from a list of books provided. § Completion of a coaching diary which will require each candidate to carry out a minimum of 6 coaching sessions each lasting between 45 – 60 minutes.
Candidates can therefore expect a learning time of 45 – 50 hours split between supported home based study and attending the workshops and seminars
The workshops and seminars consist of 11 segments: 1. Understanding Coaching § Differences between coaching and other interventions such as training, counselling, therapy § Understanding when to refer to other professionals § Mentoring and coaching, the scale of directive and non-directive coaching
2. Coaching Ethics § Standards and ethics § Developing your own practice model
3. Coaching Models and Creating Structure § GROW, T-GROW, and others § Developing SMART goals § Meaning not Models – understanding the principles of coaching
4. The Skills of Coaching § Questioning – types of questions, their uses and limits § Active Listening and Feedback § Being prepared to Probe and Challenge
5. More Coaching Skills § Self Awareness and personal management § Self Belief: The Confident Coach § Networking and accessing resources
6. Empathy § Verbal communication § Body language § NLP – the basics
7. Overcoming Resistance to Change § Understanding motivation § Communicating to motivate
8. Maintaining Action § Problem solving skills § Overcoming inertia
9. Personal Planning and Time Management § Assessing current use of time and making effective use of time
10. Planning and Preparing a Coaching Session § Personal preparation § Analytical techniques: Wheel of Life and awareness of psychometrics
11. Coaching by Telephone § A practical module using the techniques over the telephone
Personal Coaching Support You will be assigned your own LIFE COACH who will provide 3 hours of telephone coaching to support personal learning and to allow you as a new coach to experience coaching for yourself. During this time you will experience the use of many of the tools and techniques for yourself and gain a deeper understanding of the coaching experience. Additional Life Coaching can be purchased separately if required.
